Epic Humidity x 4

drawings horses studio helpers studio news

This past week we've had very hot and humid weather. I guess in gamer terms, you could say it's epic humidity x 4. It's not exactly the most motivating weather.

In the Studio

Sometimes I get asked, what is your inspiration? To me, it could be a lot of things, but one of my biggest sources of inspiration (and motivation!) is our fur-babies. The appropriately nick-named "boss kitty" (Tuxie) has made sure that I got some more work done here.

With both windows open in the studio (and a bucket to hold the door open so it doesn't blow closed), we achieve a decent breeze in the studio. I was trying to get motivated to get some work done but with this humidity I didn't want to get started on concept sketches and all that. Then in came the Tux Tux.

I opened up my sketchbook and decided to at least practice some quick sketching. I figured, our little fur-babies doesn't necessarily stay still if I try to sketch them, so I have to be quick about getting the initial sketch done.

Sometimes I manage to get the camera, other times it turns out that if I were to get the camera they change position or go do something else. The epic melt-from-cuteness-moment is then gone. So, practicing quick sketching or rapid line sketching, could be a good idea!

Featured Artwork

Today's featured artwork is a keychain featuring a print from one of my original drawings.

This drawing came about from wanting draw a horse that reminded me of one of my most favorite horses ever. She was a beautiful, chestnut thoroughbred mare. She had spunk, speed, stamina and a personality as big as the universe.

She had attitude and didn't just trust anyone. Once you had her trust though, she was the sweetest horse you could imagine.

Random Thoughts and Not so Random Thoughts

As I'm writing up this blog post, little Miss Tux Tux has passed out on Othello the (stuffed toy) studio horse. She is just super adorable to say the least. I was about to go scan my sketch page here but I knew if I got up to leave she would notice and move. I took a picture of the sketchbook instead.

Enjoy your day!
