Life With Yggdrasil: Mud, Mischief, and a Dash of Sass

It’s been a rainy, chilly couple of days here, and my horse, Yggdrasil, had to stay in overnight. You’d think that would make for a very spicy morning—and you’d be right! 😅

When I got to the barn, he was full of energy and insisted that we go for a ride. For those who don’t know, he’s only cleared by the vet for flat-ground walking (and even that is a bit of a compromise since groundwork isn’t always what he has in mind). So, I hop on for just a few minutes when he seems determined and just about once a week so far.

Today’s ride was short and sweet, about four minutes before he started giving me that “we’re done now” vibe. I was happy to keep it quick since the last time we pushed to 10 minutes, it felt like too much for him. I could tell he was struggling a bit with his proprioception and he was only going at a very calm, slow pace. After the short ride I brushed him extra and then he got his waterproof turnout sheet on. Later, he was a perfect gentleman while I took his halter off and turned him out into the pasture.

But the real show came a bit later! After moseying around for a bit, he decided to roll, get up, and then out of nowhere—canter full speed down the hill. It’s like he was saying, “I’m still the king of this field!”

Oh, and for those wondering about his cozy outfit during all this rainy weather chaos we’ve had in this area lately, he was sporting this amazing blanket: check it out here. It’s been keeping him warm and dry even in the dampest weather.

Life with Yggdrasil is always an adventure—mud, mischief, and all. 🐴
