Artworks in Progress - Revisiting Sketchbooks for Inspiration

Sometimes I like to revisit old sketchbooks for inspiration. Every now and then I also decide to create a new drawing from an earlier concept sketch!

Here are a few pages from my sketchbooks.

Sketchbook Pencil Drawing Knights and Horses Gunilla Wachtel

Knights and horses. What's not to love?

  • I might decide to get a more refined sketch done on this one.

Sketchbook page Horse Drawing Gunilla Wachtel

There seem to be a great amount of horse drawings here....

  • There is just something about this little horse. I like how the shading turned out on this one.

This is one of my concept sketches. As you can see, I sometimes draw a not so perfect box around it, just to give me an idea of the layout and composition.

  • I need to remember to use this layout in my sketchbooks more often. It is quite helpful!

Random Thoughts and Not so Random Thoughts

Rough sketches, initial and more advanced concept sketches of mine can all be quite the inspiration for new works. I'm still trying to figure out a good storage system for my filled up sketchbooks though.

Any questions or any tips for best storing sketchbooks?
