Midnight Stallion - Behind the Scenes
At times I want to take a little break from pencil work and get some painting done, even if just for fun. The other day I finally got around to getting some painting done. I hadn't painted in a while so it was even more of a learning process. I hope you enjoy this behind the scenes post.
In the Studio
I took out an 11x14 canvas and some other supplies. As you might be able to tell, I tried to protect the drafting table with some paper and cardboard under the canvas.
Craft brushes do come in pretty handy when you need to cover larger areas.
I took a stroll through the backyard to find some supplies for the background.
Some paint splatter of white and blue created the starry looking background.
Here you can see the finished painting and some of the supplies and paint still on the drafting table.
I put the painting up to dry, leaning it against the wall. Acrylic paint does dry quickly though. If you are interested in the original, contact us for more information.
Random Thoughts and Not So Random Thoughts
I'm glad I finally got around to painting some again. I made sure to try and take some notes in my art journal as I was working on this painting. I realized that I really need to try a different approach to the splatter technique.
Besides some of the techniques, I remembered that I much prefer airbrushing. Hopefully soon we will be able to set it up so that I can airbrush again. I probably have to set it up through the garage though. The kitties love the upstairs studio and if I try to close the door to the studio they do not approve (that's putting it mildly)!
I still like drawing the best so that's what I'll be mostly focusing on. This was a fun painting though. Later here I will be working on some new concept sketches for the new drawing series. If you want to see behind the scenes pictures from the new series, make sure to sign up for the newsletter!
Enjoy your day!
